2023 Home Design Trends: What’s In and What’s Out?

Modern Mountain Builders’
portfolio constantly evolves as new and familiar trends compete for attention. It’s necessary to stay up-to-date on the latest design trends to make informed decisions during the home design
process. This post will help you determine what’s in and out in 2023.

Here are a few designs that have caught our attention over the past few years.

Flex Space – Americans of all sizes want to create flexible home offices and other areas of the home that may grow with their families. Designing this during the planning phase can help make this happen properly. For example, a closet and another method of egress may be incorporated into a home office to make it into a second bed if it has a closet. A data closet may be utilized to switch from a spare bedroom to a media room if it has space for one.

Smart Kitchen Storage – There are plenty of smart kitchen storage options to make the kitchen work smarter. Corner cabinets are out in favor of galley-style layouts to help prevent wasted space. In addition to creative interior storage, vertical cookie-sheet racks, small-appliance elevators, and built-in spice racks, creative outlet planning is essential to reduce countertop clutter and create a sense of minimalism. In addition to charging a phone or laptop, outlets should be installed for cooking and charging needs.

Kitchen Islands – these are now a must-have for entertaining, casual dining, and preparing fun recipes found on social media. However, peninsula islands are out.

Steam Showers – clients have been requesting steam showers, which provide relaxation without filling a tub.

Open Floor Plans – Even though open floor plans are becoming less popular in the housing industry, we need to see that among our custom home buyers. Although open floor plans are losing popularity, we do not see that among our custom home buyers. Because homeowners still want to be able to connect the kitchen and living area, not only to make it easier to host parties but also to let light permeate the living room.

LED Mirrors – People turning to LED Mirrors are avoiding the standard two- and three-lamp vanity fixture in favor of mirrors with integrated LEDs, and bathroom lighting, in general, is being experimented with, including pendant lights over the toilet.

Radiant Heating – is still popular in bathrooms, providing coziness in our notoriously wet Pacific Northwest winters. Radiant flooring is also gaining momentum throughout the home as an alternative to forced-air systems.

Black Window Frames – are becoming increasingly popular during the current farmhouse fashion movement. It matches contemporary and transitional styles for a timeless look. They remain popular even when the style loses its appeal.

Outdoor Living – The outdoor living market has been booming due to the pandemic and shows no sign of slowing down. Outdoor kitchens (pizza ovens are particularly popular), comfortable and stylish furniture that withstands the elements, and meeting and eating areas are just some examples. Because indoor amenities are now frequently placed outside, outdoor spaces are becoming more functional than ever. Large, folding or sliding doors ensure seamless transitions between indoors and out.

Low-Maintenance Materials – Less work a home requires is better. Wood alternatives such as composite decking, fiber cement cladding, and other wood-like products give you an authentic wood look without the work.
